I’m Audrey Clement, Independent candidate for Arlington County Board on November 3. I’m a 22 year resident of Arlington County, past member of the Transportation Commission and current delegate to the Arlington Neighborhoods Advisory Committee and Arlington Civic Federation.
I’m running against woke policies promoted by Democrat officials that disenfranchise the many to appease the few.
A recently released U.S. House Judiciary Committee report focuses on the immigration enforcement abuses of Arlington County, one of 200 jurisdictions across the United States that refuse to cooperate with ICE.
Specifically Arlington refuses to honor ICE detainers unless accompanied by a judicial warrant. This is an unreasonable requirement, insofar as most aliens wanted by ICE are charged with state crimes based on state warrants unavailable to federal immigration agents.
According to the report: “Radical prosecutors like [Arlington Commonwealth Attorney Parisa] Dehghani-Tafti know this fact, but they willfully conflate the law to mislead the American people (Judiciary Report, p. 22).”
Not only that, but Dehghani-Tafti admitted in a deposition that her office takes immigration status into account when deciding whether/how to prosecute someone. For example, her office has Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients arrested for DUIs plead guilty to other–presumably lesser–charges in order to avoid deportation (Judiciary Report, p. 3).
According to the report: “This policy ensures that certain foreign nationals are never convicted of DWI[s] in Arlington County, solely due to their status as non-U.S. citizens. . .Because of Arlington County’s radical sanctuary policies, repeat and dangerous criminals have been released onto the streets (Judiciary Report, pp. 3, 4)”.
If the House Judiciary Committee report alarms you, it should. Some of the illegals released onto Arlington streets include:
- A criminal alien gang member with a 57-page criminal history that includes multiple felony charges, including for robbery and malicious wounding;
- A criminal alien charged with felony hit-and-run that led to injury or death;
- A criminal alien charged with abduction and assault on a family member (Judiciary Report, pp. 4, 5)”.
If elected I pledge to restore Arlington’s cooperation with ICE for the purpose of enforcing U.S. immigration law. I also pledge to:
- Stop Missing Middle up-zoning.
- Seek immediate tax relief for residents and businesses.
- Reduce the office vacancy rate by getting tax burdened New York City businesses to relocate here.
- Restore the local economy by getting the federal government to rehire its workforce.
